Cherub Aran Yarn by Cascade Yarns [Yarn Review]
While visiting Backstitches, a local yarn shop in Lynchburg, Virginia, I discovered a wall of Cherub Aran yarn by Cascade Yarns. I loved the colorways and the softness and bought it on the spot!
About Cherub Aran Yarn
Cascade Yarns’ Cherub Aran yarn is a medium weight yarn made from a blend of nylon and acrylic. It is available in over 100 colorways in stripes, multis, and solids. Cherub is also available in different weights (bulky, chunky, and DK) in similar colors and identical fiber composition. All sizes are packaged in bullet skeins.
Cherub Aran yarn retails for $6 per skein. Each bullet skein contains 240 yards (220 meters) of yarn and weighs in at 100 grams (3.5 ounces).
The recommended needles and hooks for this yarn are US 7 (4.5mm) or US 8 (5.00 mm) knitting needles and US H, US I, or US J crochet hooks. I used US 8 (5.00 mm) needles with this yarn and feel like the smaller size would have been too small for my tension and preference.
Pros
Cherub Aran yarn is beautiful. The colors are rich and it has a subtle sheen.
It was easy to work with, too. Once I started knitting, I realized it was much softer and plumper than I had originally thought.
There were no knots or breaks.
I made a Musselburgh Hat and I was pleased with both the process and the results. The colors I used, solid Grey (#17) and variegated Roasted Chilis (#518), paired beautifully.
Cons
I was disappointed to discover that Cherub Aran yarn splits easily. I poked my needle through the plies more than once!
Overall
I enjoyed working with this yarn and would buy it again.
I also felt that for the look and feel, the price point is competitive.
