What is an Amazon Prime Membership?

I’m old enough to remember Amazon’s bookseller days. For you young folks, that was back in the early ages of the Internet when shopping online was relatively new. Amazon.com was my favorite place to purchase college textbooks! It was practically all they sold, but they were inexpensive and easy to order.

Now Amazon has expanded their market to cover just about everything. While you don’t need to be a member to shop, an Amazon Prime membership allows access to tons of perks.

Members have access to same-day grocery delivery from Amazon Fresh, plus deeper discounts on staple goods on Prime Pantry.

An Amazon Prime membership also includes access to Prime Video, a free streaming service with tons of movies and TV shows, and access to over 2 million songs are available to stream with Prime Music. Amazon Prime Reading provides access to books, magazines, and comics, plus access to one free Kindle book per month.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Typically held once a year, Amazon Prime Day is a huge sale that is exclusively for Amazon Prime members. For 48 hours, Amazon releases huge deals on thousands of products.

There are so many benefits to an Amazon Prime membership, but Amazon Prime Day is my favorite one! If you don’t yet have a membership, now is the time to join! Sign up for the free 30-day trial and you’ll be eligible to shop all of the Amazon Prime Day deals! Students can sign up for a free 6-month Student Prime account.

Amazon Prime Day Details

Prime Day began at 12:00AM PST on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
Prime Day ended at 11:59PM PST on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

All Amazon Prime Day deals are limited. All of the deals will expire at the end of Prime Day, but some will expire sooner. Those deals can only be purchased during a short window, usually a couple hours long. Others have limited quantities, so you may find that they sell out even faster. In other words, you have to snag the deals when you see them!

If a deal is coming up, add it to your watch list to receive a notification when it is available.

What to Expect

Many of last year’s biggest deals were on Amazon’s own items: Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, Fire Tablet, and Kindle Paperwhite. I think we can expect to see the same this year.

Prime Day deals for makers are harder to predict. Some of the biggest deals for makers in recent years have been the Cricut Explore Air (bundled with other goodies), the Cricut Easy Press, the Silhouette Cameo cutting machine, and a Singer computerized sewing machine! I think it’s safe to expect that Amazon will release some Cricut deals. (Then again, that may be wishful thinking as I want one for Christmas!)

Smaller-ticket items have also been available at deep discounts. Those have included glue sticks, washi tape, art markers, watercolor brush pens, glitter, latch hook craft kits, label makers, sheet moss, and a fashion plate set.
