When asking friends in my traveling circle about Orlando resort recommendations, one name kept popping up: Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek.
Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek is close to Disney Springs and the Walt Disney World theme parks, it’s loaded with amenities, and it was competitively priced. This resort seemed like the perfect fit. We booked a few days and hung up our countdown calendar!
Checking In
About a week before check-in, we received a notification via text about updates, including access to the pool, lazy river, game room, gym, business center, restaurant, and some scheduled activities.
On the day of check-in, we arrived right on time and had to wait about 10 minutes. The lines moved quickly, the areas were clearly marked, and the staff was friendly. It was seamless! Once I received our keycards and wristbands, we drove to our tower.
That’s right — we got a wristband! Made of a metal charm on an elastic band, it granted building and room access the same way a key card would, only it was more convenient. We were also able to open the main gate with our wristband whenever we returned to property.
The Suite
We booked a one-bedroom suite. Even though we’d seen photos before booking, we were still surprised at how roomy it was!
The beds were large and cozy. The sleeper sofa in the living room converted into another bed — queen-sized! It was bigger and more comfortable than we expected.
The suite also included a full kitchen and dining area! It was great to be able to still enjoy family meals while on vacation.
We used the kitchen to prep some meals during the stay. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, but we still stuck with easier dishes that produced little waste, like frozen lasagna.
If you’re worried about overbuying groceries and having no way to handle your leftover items, Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek provides boxes in the lobby of each tower. Any non-perishable goods can be dropped off in the boxes and will be donated to local food banks.
The restroom was split with a locking door in the center and access from two different sides. A sink and jacuzzi tub were on the side closest to the master bathroom.
The other side, accessible from the kitchen/dining area, has an additional sink, a shower, and a toilet.
We were pleased to see the suite also included a stackable washer and dryer! There were also several places to store our belongings during our stay, including multiple closets.
Each suite has a balcony or patio, too. Look at that view! It was a foggy day, but you can still make out the Hollywood Tower Hotel on the left! We could also see the Skyliner gondolas running on the right. It was great to have a taste of Disney before we spent the next few days at the parks.
The Resort
I’d never stayed at a Club Wyndham resort before this visit and to be honest, I didn’t expect the resort to have any theming. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the resort is designed around the Legend of the Bay of Bonnet Creek!
I can’t speak to the veracity of the tale or any liberties that were taken with it, but the background story made for a more enjoyable stroll around the lake.
The San Andres watch tower, part of the legend, is one of the features of the lakeside path.
The tower was open for climbing and definitely worth it. Just follow the steps up a couple short flights!
Though it’s not very tall compared to the towers around it, the views were spectacular!
We visit Orlando during the winter to escape our weather at home. At Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek, there were several opportunities to enjoy the Florida sun! Multiple pools, a mini golf course, several shuffleboard courts, jogging trails, a playground, several outdoor grills, and several porch swings by the water gave us plenty to do.
We spent most of our outdoor time on these trails and in the pools.
The indoor game room was also open, but reservations were required. From what we could see, the room included billiards and air hockey.
Ping pong was available outside, too! This is back in the San Andres watch tower.
Scheduled arts and crafts classes were not being held during our stay, but take-home kits were available for purchase.
We also stumbled upon a vegetable and herb garden during one of our many exploratory walks! I’m so envious of Floridians for being able to garden all year.
The Pools
Yes, we swam in the winter! My kids love the water and really miss it this time of year. Temperatures topped 85° during our stay. Combined with the sun and heated pool water, it was perfect swimming weather for Virginia natives.
We spent some time on sunnier days at the splash pad and spent one whole afternoon exploring the shipwreck slide.
All in all, Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek has five pools. Some are geared more toward adults; they’re calm pools without the bells and whistles… but with a bar!
The two lazy rivers were also open, but tubes were not provided due to COVID. Instead, you could bring your own or float along without one. These so-called lazy rivers actually moved at a pretty good pace!
We will definitely be visiting Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek again! We loved the resort for its convenient location, amenities, and ample suite space. My husband says it’s his favorite place we’ve ever stayed!
