About Cockleshells Stitch
Cockleshells Stitch is a reversible, fan-shaped stitch that is worked on a background of yarnover lace.
This stitch is useful in creating allover texture for blankets or home textiles. It’s also an excellent edging.
I used 223 yards (204 meters) of yarn to complete this panel.
This pattern was adapted from 50 Fabulous Knit Stitches by Rita Weiss.
Abbreviations
BO – bind off
CO – cast on
k – knit
p – purl
p2tog – purl 2 together; single decrease
st(s) – stitch(es)
yo – yarn over
Notes
Stitch counts for each row include yarnovers on that row. Even though these stitches should not be counted till they are worked as stitches on the next row, I think it is easier to stay on track when they are included in the count.

I am up to row 10. Before I try it I want to understand what you mean by dropping extra loops. The pearling of 15 stitches sounds clear, I think. Haven’t seen the demonstration yet–if it is there I can’t find it.

The video is located just under the second image. It’s a direct link to YouTube.
In Row 9, there is a series of stitches: yo twice, k1. When working Row 10, you will drop all of the yarn overs and only purl together the 15 stitches you knit on the previous row.

Just to let you know the Winter-KAL has been a pleasure to follow and learn with your instructions. I have almost finished two blocks not in order. I sent a facebook comment but was not sure it was sent properly. Have a Great Year!

Thank you so much, Karen! 🙂

By the time I did the K1,Pl, Kl in all the YO on row 11, was I supposed to have only 66 stitches to knit on Row 12.??
Holly
The pattern has been updated with row counts, but yes, you should have 66 again once you have completed Row 12.
Rows 1-2: 66 sts
Rows 3-6: 72 sts
Rows 7-8: 84 sts
Row 9: 168 sts
Row 10: 48 sts
Rows 11-12: 66 sts
These counts do include yarn overs, even though not all of the yarn overs are worked in this pattern.
