1 skein (38 yds) of That ’70s Yarn in Funky

Needles:
US #17/13.00 mm

7 sts x 6 rows = 4″ x 4″
in garter stitch

BO – bind off
CO – cast on
gs – garter stitch
k – knit
kfb – knit 1 into front and back of a stitch; single knit increase
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together; single right-leaning decrease
ssk – slip 2 stitches knitwise, knit these 2 stitches together through the back loops; single left-leaning decrease
st(s) – stitch(es)

Pattern

The Cordata knitted heart rug is worked back and forth from the bottom up. The top curves are each worked separately.

Setup

CO 1 st

Body

Row 1 – k1

Row 2 – kfb (2 sts)

Row 3 – k1, kfb (3 sts)

Row 4 – kfb, k1, kfb (5 sts)

Row 5 – work even

Rows 6 to 11 – kfb, k to last st, kfb (15 sts)

Row 12 – work even

Rows 13 to 16 – kfb, k to last st, kfb (23 sts)

Row 17 – work even

Row 18 – kfb, k to last st, kfb (25 sts)

Row 19 – work even

Row 20 – kfb, k to last st, kfb (27 sts)

Row 21 – work even

Row 22 – kfb, k to last st, kfb (29 sts)

Rows 23 to 32 – work even

Now work the top curves of the heart one side at a time.

Continue to turn your work after every row.

Top Curve #1

Row 33 – k14

Row 34 – k2tog, k12 (13 sts)

Row 35 – k1, ssk, k7, k2tog, k1 (11 sts)

Row 36 – k1, ssk, k8 (10 sts)

Row 37 – k1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k1 (8 sts)

Row 38 – k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1 (6 sts)

Row 39 – work even

Row 40 – BO all sts

Top Curve #2

For the second heart curve, begin on the outside edge.

Rows 33 and 34 – k all

Repeat rows 35 to 40 from Top Curve #1.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Block if desired.

Trim non-slip rug backing into a heart shape roughly the size of the knitted heart rug, leaving 1″ allowance around the edge.

Carefully affix to the back of the rug with hot glue or sew in with scrap yarn.
