Egg Carton Flowers: Upcycled Spring Craft

Since posting pictures on our list of social distancing activities, a few folks have asked about how we made these egg carton flowers. I’m happy to share! This craft is quick and easy, plus we were able to make them with materials we already had at home.

They’re also a great project for all ages. My 7-year-old made these blue egg carton flowers.

Materials

• egg cartons
• paint
• paintbrushes
• scissors (optional)
• E6000 craft adhesive or hot glue
• pipe cleaners/chenille stems or sticks
• cardstock (optional)

Background or Standalone?

We made two versions of this craft: on a background and standalone (in a vase).

Separate the egg wells, either by hand or with scissors.

Our daisies were torn by hand. They have a tear at each corner all the way down to the base to form 4 petals.

The other flowers were cut into 4 petals (cut down each corner) or 8 petals (cut down each corner, then cut each section in half).

Once cut, paint your flowers as desired. Be sure to paint the edges and at least a bit of the back of each petal as this will be visible.

Once the paint dries, decide how you’d like the flowers arranged.

You can create more depth by layering egg wells to create a single flower. This is how we made the daisies.

Use hot glue or a strong craft glue to secure your stems to your flowers and your stems and flowers to the background, if you’re using one.

Allow to dry completely before displaying your finished product.
