Far Yarn by Woolfolk [Yarn Review]
Far yarn by Woolfolk is a single hue chainette yarn that caught my eye on my visit to Finch Knitting + Sewing Studio earlier this year. I’ve been knitting with it since!
About Far Yarn
Far yarn by Woolfolk is a worsted weight chainette yarn (my favorite!) and it is made from 100% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino. It’s available in more than 30 colors, all of which are single or “solid” colors in twisted hanks.
Far yarn retails for $21 per hank. Each hank contains 142 yards (130 meters) of yarn and weighs in at 50 grams (1.75 ounces).
The recommended needle size for Far yarn is provided in a range: US sizes 6 to 8 (4.00 to 5.00 mm). I found that the US 8 (5.00 mm) needles worked best as they accommodated the springiness of the yarn.
Pros
Far yarn has incredible texture, which adds to the beauty of finished projects.
This yarn is also ultra soft. It has a delicate halo that’s nearly impossible to see, but it can easily be felt. The springiness of this yarn, due to its chainette construction, also contributes to the softness of finished projects.
Since it’s 100% wool, it’s also incredibly warm.
I really can’t gush enough about how wonderful this yarn is. I just want to bury my face in it!
Cons
Far yarn is on the pricier end. At $21 per hank, a single scarf can easily cost upwards of $80 to make. Most of us will have to reserve use of this yarn for small, rare projects. Most local yarn shops will wind hanks purchased at their shop for free, but if yours doesn’t, you may also want to factor in the cost of a winder.
I found two breakages in one of the hanks I used. As it was black (colorway 05), it was nearly impossible to see the cause of the breakage.
Overall
I would definitely buy Far by Woolfolk again, but if I’d carefully planned and calculated the yardage (and cost) of a project beforehand.
Where to Purchase
Woolfolk is available at your local yarn shop or at the Woolfolk Yarn website.
