Flag Rock: Recreation Area and Wildlife Sanctuary

Flag Rock Recreation area is home to two protected species: the green salamander and the woodbooger.

While we didn’t see green salamanders on our visit, we did find a woodboodger (statue).

Around here, woodbooger is the name for the creature other folks know as “Bigfoot.” The creature is so celebrated that there’s even a Woodbooger Festival!

We weren’t really expecting to see any woodboogers, though. We were here for the views!

There were several intersting rock formations that we climbed on and around (with care, of course).

Admission to Flag Rock is free and the hike is gentle, so it is definitely worth a stop!

After your visit, continue up the mountain to the High Knob Lookout Tower for more spectacular views.
