Hooked Ribbon XL [Yarn Review]
Hoooked Ribbon XL is a classic t-shirt yarn. Bulky but lightweight, it is made from 100% recycled fibers (cotton) and is perfect for home decor.
About Ribbon XL
Hoooked Ribbon XL is made from 100% recycled cast-offs. It’s the edges and leftovers used to make other garments from the fashion industry.
This yarn retails for $10-12 per cake and the cost varies widely with each colorway. Each cake contains 142 yards (130 meters) of yarn and weighs in at 680 grams (24 ounces).
The recommended needles and hooks for this yarn are US 11 (8.00 mm) knitting needles or US L-11 (8.00 mm) crochet hooks or larger. I used a much larger hook, a US Q (17.00 mm) and it worked well.
Pros
In general, t-shirt yarn is strong, springy, and soft enough to work with all day. Ribbon XL is no exception. It works up quickly and could easily be used for finger knitting or crafts.
It is available in 30+ colors, ranging from earth tones to vibrant primaries.
Since it is made of 100% cotton, it is suitable for vegans or those with allergies to wool.
It curls, so it has the appearance of a chainette yarn, which is one of my favorite types of yarn to work with.
Cons
Because it is made from cast-offs, there can be subtle differences in color from skein to skein.
As with any super bulky yarn, Ribbon XL can be harder on your hands than a lightweight yarn.
Overall Impression
This is an excellent yarn for home décor and works up beautifully. I think it is versatile and a value at its price point!
