The Shop

I visited Hunt Country Yarns in The Plains almost a decade ago. It was late 2010 and we were traveling to visit family. After a trip to Pittsburgh a few years prior, I’d realized how amazing local yarn shops were. I looked for those along our route and Hunt Country Yarns fit the bill. It was easy to access from the interstate and was located in a charming town.

The shop was cozy, exactly what you’d expect when visiting this downtown strip. They had a great selection of beautiful yarns. While there, I purchased Crystal Palace Yarns Merino Stripes yarn [discontinued]. According to Ravelry, which I’d only found about a year and a half before, it was my first wool project! (Merino Stripes was 85% wool and has since been discontinued.)

I made my daughter, barely a toddler, a sweater. Though it was beautiful, I wasn’t terribly pleased with the results. Kids have really big heads, but I didn’t yet understand how that translated into sweaters.

According to the Facebook announcement, the shop is closing because its owner is retiring. While I’m disappointed to see it go, I’m grateful the closure is from a positive decision.
