Jirani Coffee House: An Old Town Treasure

Old Town Manassas is full of excellent restaurants and shops to explore, but none is as cozy and inviting as Jirani Coffee House!

Because it faces the railroad tracks rather than the street, Jirani Coffee House can be easy to overlook. A foot path leads to the main entrance, which is flanked by café-style tables and chairs.

The menu doesn’t seem extensive at first glance, but all kinds of coffees, blends, and drinks are made here. Jirani emphasizes the process, from ethically-sourced beans and locally-roasted blends to daily grinding. The coffee I had here was delicious: balanced, silky, and rich.

The shop also keeps a well-stocked cooler and bakery case!

Jirani Coffee House was established in 2015 and takes its name from the Swahili word for neighbor. Nowhere is that reflected more than in the design of the space.

The coffee shop’s décor mixes warmth and industrialism. Deep yellows, reds, and greens echo throughout the space. Hard lines of brick and pipe are balanced by the soft curves of couches, faux windows, and the Jirani “J.”

The main dining area has traditional tables, a fireplace with couch seating, and a corner stage. (The shop is open late many days to accommodate live shows.) The Jirani “J,” styled almost as a violin’s sound hole, is elegantly painted on the brick wall in the back of the shop.

Moving to the back of the shop, I discovered a library and three large, private booths. These spaces are excellent for brainstorming, group work, board games, or, if you catch them at the right time of day, a bit of privacy.
