Long Tail Knits is a local yarn shop in Northfield, Ohio. We stopped at this shop during our trip to Ohio to see the total solar eclipse.
The Shop
Long Tail Knits is located in a strip mall, not too far from I-271. Its location was easy to find and the strip mall has ample parking.
When I first entered the store, I was surprised at how spacious it was! There are several areas for classes and collaboration, several displays of yarn and wool, and a few needles and notions.
The shop atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and helpful! I found myself wishing I lived closer to this shop. It really embodied what I thought a yarn shop should be.
The shop offers classes in knitting, crocheting, needle felting, spinning, weaving, and even macrame!
My favorite (physical) thing about this shop was the long table in the back. It could easily fit a dozen stitchers! It is the perfect for visitors to gather around and stitch.
When I inquired about local dyers, I discovered the shop partners with alk&me, an Ohio-based dyer who emphasizes the chemistry of the dyeing process. There were several displays of alk&me yarn in different weights and colorways.
Most of aslk&me’s yarns were dyed in rich and vibrant colors, but I found a fingering weight wool blend in an understated colorway! I bought the last two skeins and I’m calling it my Lake Erie yarn.
If you’re ever in northeast Ohio, definitely stop by Long Tail Knits! It’s a rare find, even among local yarn shops.
