At Yarn's Length

Messick’s Farm Market & Fall Festival

Autumn weather hit early this year in Virginia. We’ve already had our first frost warnings and the leaves are crunching underfoot, but as of this week, it’s official… it’s fall. Last weekend we visited Messick’s Farm Market and we had a blast!

Messick’s Farm Market

Housed in a beautiful roadside barn, Messick’s Farm Market is a year-round market that features produce, dairy, meats, and flowers from local farms.

They also sell some packaged foods from local vendors, like jams, jellies, sauces, and honey.

Homemade lotions, soaps, and bath bombs are also available. Nearby farms provide goats milk and the artisans cut the soap bars by hand!

Messick’s also stocks Shining Sol candles from nearby Old Town Manassas, Virginia.

There’s a wide variety of Route 11 Potato Chips, too! They’re straight from Mount Jackson, Virginia.

A good portion of the barn is dedicated to farmhouse chic home decor and gifts, too.

There’s something for everyone!

We purchased chocolates, classic candies, raspberry fried pies, moonshine barbecue sauce, and a lot of bacon. All of them were excellent, but the fried pies have my heart. (I’m a sucker for baked goods.)

The Kitchen Deli

We can’t stop by a country market with a deli without sampling the offerings!

My favorite thing about the Kitchen Deli at Messick’s is that they serve breakfast all day. I’m not typically hungry in the morning and I miss out on some of the best foods because of it. At the Kitchen Deli, I was able to get one of my favorite foods — biscuits and gravy — after noon!

We ordered a variety and everything from the breakfast sandwiches to the chicken tenders was delicious! It is all reasonably priced and though it was made to order and the market was busy, it was ready fairly quickly.

We were able to sit outside and enjoy our meal while distanced from other families. The Kitchen Deli takes call-ahead orders.

Homemade Frozen Custard

Messick’s Farm Market serves frozen custard to outdoor patrons at a walk-up window. There are several flavors offered daily. You can choose from a variety of toppings or a predetermined sundae, banana split, or custard cookie.

Or you can enjoy a milkshake!

Events

Outside you can find food trucks, animals, and all of the seasonal events!

Messick’s Farm Market offers a variety of events throughout the year, including the Fall Festival.

We didn’t participate in the Fall Festival, but we were able to spy playgrounds, giant tunnel slides, a jumping pillow, and tetherball-style swings

LOVEworks

You can also find our favorite kind of Virginia sculpture, a LOVEwork, at the entrance to Messick’s Farm Market.
