On my first visit to Universal’s Islands of Adventure, I spotted an unusual structure as we entered the area known as The Lost Continent. It wasn’t an attraction, as I first assumed, but a restaurant called Mythos. We couldn’t wait to try it!
The Restaurant
The theming of this restaurant is beautiful. Mythos is housed in a giant, craggy mountain that is perched on the edge of the lagoon at Islands of Adventure. Massive carvings in the red rocks can be seen from multiple points across the lagoon. The carvings include familiar mythological figures like Atlas. Water cascades over and through several of the figures emerging from the stone and pours down the sides of the crag.
The interior of the restaurant is a grotto that bears the same types of carvings and fountains. A giant dragon snakes its way around the room and its mouth serves as an oven. Nearly every table (indoor and outdoor) also has an excellent view of the lagoon.
The Menu
The menu at Mythos Restaurant offers a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian favorites, including Grilled Octopus, Pad Thai, and Lamb Burgers. Many of the entrées are vegetarian (or can easily be made so) and all are reasonably priced.
I ordered the Souvlaki Couscous Bowl. The bowl included Israeli couscous (my favorite!), grilled tomatoes, diced cucumber, roasted chickpeas, cherry peppers, kalamata olives, tzatziki, feta crumbles, pita, and a giant dollop of tzatziki. I ordered mine with Moroccan beef, but it’s also available with tofu or Souvlaki chicken.
It was delicious! Every ingredient was fresh and it was cooked perfectly. My favorite part was the tomatoes, grilled while still on the vine. They were fresh, warm, and withered. This entrée was also just the right size; I wouldn’t have been able to eat it with an appetizer or dessert.
The kids’ menu has familiar favorites like chicken tenders and pizza. Slightly more adventurous eaters can choose beef medallions or penne with garlic cream.
Overall
Mythos Restaurant has been awarded the honor of world’s best theme park restaurant several times over. I can’t speak to all of the theme park restaurants in the world, but of those I’ve eaten at, Mythos Restaurant is absolutely on top! I absolutely understand why it took these honors.
