Phone Number Bracelets

Phone number bracelets are a small craft that provides big peace of mind for parents on the go.

(Not actually my phone number.)

Traveling with three little ones can be challenging, especially if you’re outside at night in a crowd. When we were planning our Christmas Town trip, I knew a good portion of that time would be spent in the dark. While it isn’t an issue for my husband, bright lights leave me with a bit of night blindness.

I started to worry about keeping track of my kids. We have been to Busch Gardens several times and we have talked about what to do if we got separated at stores, parks, and other public places. Still, would they know? What information would they be able to recall if they were upset?

I came up with a way to help put my mind at ease… and even found a way to get my kids in on it.

Phone Number Bracelets

As we were leaving, I filled a small basket with scissors, elastic, and a few packs of beads. I’d already picked beads in my kids’ favorite colors, plus some with numbers. I tossed that in the car. Later, when the road trip got tiresome, I passed the basket back to the kids and told them they could make whatever they wanted… with one caveat.

The first bracelet they made must have mom’s phone number or dad’s phone number on it. (We would have done both, but then the bracelets would have been too big to fit!)

Our oldest knew our numbers by heart, but we asked her to make one and wear it anyway. In a stressful situation, her mind may go blank. It also sets a good example for the littles.

Our middle child actually learned my number while making the bracelet! Repeating it aloud as she strung on the numbers and seeing it on her wrist all day solidified it in her mind. That was an unexpected bonus!

All three wore their bracelets while we were at the park. Sure, I had to break the vacuum out in the minivan, but I also had a little more peace of mind during our trip.

What brings you peace of mind when traveling with little ones?
