Materials

Recommended Yarn:
100 yards of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn in Soft Ecru (color A)
50 yards of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn in Beach Glass (color B)
50 yards of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn in Hot Blue (color C)

Needles:
US #7/4.50 mm

Notions:
finishing needle

Notes

Gauge:
16 sts x 26 rows = 4″ x 4″
in Sea Spray pattern

Sizing:
one size (18″ x 28″)

The dishcloth is worked back and forth. It is worked the bottom to the top.

Abbreviations

BO – bind off
CO – cast on
k – knit
pwise – purlwise
RS – right side
sl – slip
st(s) – stitch(es)
wyib – with yarn in back
wyif – with yarn in front
WS – wrong side

Sea Spray Stitch

To work the Sea Spray Stitch, knit the previously slipped stitches into the next stitch on left hand needle.

For the majority of the pattern, you will be picking up stitches from 3 rows and knitting them into the next stitch. Essentially this is knitting 4 stitches together.

This is what it should look like:

Note that on the first and last rows that use this technique, you will not have as many slipped stitches to pick up and knit into the next stitch.

Setup

CO 74 sts with Color A (Soft Ecru).

Work 2 rows Stockinette stitch.

Body

Change to color B (Beach Glass).

1 (RS) – *k5, sl 1 wyif* end k2
2 – p2 *sl1 wyib, p5*

Change to color A (Soft Ecru).

3 – *k5, sea spray stitch* end k2
4 – p4 *sl 3 wyib, p3* end sl 3 wyib, p1

Change to color C (Hot Blue).

5 – k2 *sl 1 wyif, k5*
6 – *p5, sl 1 wyib* end p2

Change to color A(Soft Ecru).

7 – k2 *sea spray stitch, k5*
8 – p1 *sl 3 wyib, p3* end p1

Repeat these 8 rows until piece measures about 27.5″.

Finishing

9 – k2 *sea spray stitch, k5*
10 (WS) – p all
11 – k all

BO all sts pwise.

Weave in all ends. Block lightly if desired.
