Spring Stitch Sampler Knit Along 2021 [Knitting Pattern]
Welcome to the Spring Stitch Sampler Knit Along!
I’m so happy that you’re here! I’ve been working hard on this simple, fun, and engaging project that we can complete together.
What Is a Knit Along (KAL)?
A knit along (KAL) is when many knitters work on their own version of the same project together. The KAL is typically broken down into several steps for staggered release, allowing everyone the chance to work on each piece at the same time.
KALs also give access to a community of knitters who are working the same pattern, which is very helpful if you hit a snag. It’s also fun to share your work and see other interpretations of the same pattern!
This is our second knit along, our second stitch sampler project, and our first mosaic knit along!
What Is a Sampler?
A stitch sampler (or simply sampler) is a pattern that incorporates several different stitches or techniques in one project. Changing stitches adds visual interests to projects, keeps them interesting to make, and gives knitters the opportunity to work on multiple skills in one project.
What Is Mosaic Knitting?
Mosaic knitting is a colorwork technique that uses slipped stitches to make geometric designs. It is typically worked with two highly-contrasting colors, though only one color is used at a time.
Don’t worry if this is all new to you! We’ll cover the basics of mosaic knitting before we get started.
KAL Details
This KAL will begin on Monday, May 3. Each Monday, a section of the pattern will be released. There will be 4 sections, each with a different mosaic. The last one will be released on Monday, May 24.
You will also have a couple weeks to practice mosaic knitting before the KAL begins. An introduction to mosaic knitting with videos will be available on April 19.

The Pattern
The Spring Stitch Sampler Knit Along project is a blanket!
Sizes
Finished sizes:
baby blanket – 30″ x 36″
lapghan – 36″ x 48″
throw – 52″ x 60″
Instructions for all three sizes will be provided. Consider how much yarn you’ll need and how quickly you knit when choosing which size works best for you. If you’re simply here to learn skills, a baby blanket may be a good fit even if you don’t have a baby in your life! You may also want to knit the smallest version if you’re concerned about “keeping up” (though note that you can complete this project at your own pace).
Lapghans and throws are likely more useful for your own home. You may want to adjust the yarn and/or colors to complement your favorite couch or chair.
To view our terms of use for all knitting and crochet patterns, see our Terms of Service.
Materials
Yarn:
375 (600, 1080) yards of worsted weight yarn (Color A)

I’ve chosen a versatile worsted weight yarn in bright, spring colors. One color is solid and the other is variegated.
If this yarn or these colors don’t work for you, please substitute for something that does. I’d love to see your results!

This is gorgeous!
Is this knitted in panels and sewn together or in one piece? I don’t want to buy the yarn if it has to be sewn together.
Thanks for any help you can give
Holly
It is knitted in one piece with no seams! Plus you only have to weave in 4 ends: 1 of Color A at the beginning and end and 1 of Color B at the beginning and end.

Thank you! I’ve ordered my yarn and excited to start.
One more question. Is the pattern charted or written or both?
Thanks again!
Holly
Each section will have written instructions as well as a chart for the stitch pattern.

This will be my second KAL and I’m looking forward to learning more from you. I did my first KAL with you and learned so much that I felt I could finally knit a shawl that had wanted to do for almost 2 years.
I’ve got my yarn ready and ready to go.
I’m so glad you are doing this.
Blessings!
Holly
Welcome back, Alyce! I can’t wait to see what you make this time.

hoping to get yarn soon :-). Have always wanted to learn this technique. I notice watching your first video (russian) that on the public rows you slip your stitch knitwise and on the private rows you slip purl wise. Does this matter? My default is to always slip purl wise. Would it make a difference?
Holly
I’m a combination knitter, so I’m used to “reading” stitches and reseating them. Slipping one way down and one way back ensures they’re all seated facing the same way as their sister stitches. If you’re a traditional knitter, slipping pwise is the default.
liz
Thanks! (didn’t know they seated differently if combination knitter – learned something!)
