About Sweet Shells Stitch

Sweet Shells Stitch is a fan-style stitch with flares of Stockinette Stitch fans on a background of Reverse Stockinette Stitch. The fabric is dense with a gentle allover texture.

I used 230 yards (210 meters) of yarn to complete this panel.

This pattern was adapted from 50 Fabulous Knit Stitches by Rita Weiss.

CO 66 sts.

Work 3 rows of garter stitch.

Row 1 – K3, *p1, yo, k8, yo, p1; rep from * to last st, k3

Row 2 – K3, *k2, p8, k2; rep from * to last st, k3 [78 sts]

Row 3 – K3, *p2, yo, k8, yo, p2; rep from * to last st, k3

Row 4 – K3, *k3, p8, k3; rep from * to last st, k3 [90 sts]

Row 5 – K3, *p3, yo, k8, yo, p3; rep from * to last st, k3

Row 6 – K3, *k4, p8, k4; rep from * to last st, k3 [102 sts]

Row 7 – K3, *p4, k4tog twice, p4; rep from * to last st, k3 [66 sts]

Row 8 – K all

Row 9 – K3, p to last st, k3

Work these 10 rows 9 times for a total of 90 rows. There are now 93 rows including the garter stitch setup rows.
