I found T-Shirt Yarn by Fox Yarn at Two Rivers Yarns last month and just finished crocheting a rug with it. It’s a soft and beautiful cotton yarn that is perfect for bulky home projects.
About T-Shirt Yarn
Fox Yarns’ T-Shirt Yarn is a bulky yarn made from repurposed factory scraps. It’s available in limited colorways, which are always solid in color. T-Shirt Yarn is packaged in hefty 1.5-pound cakes.
This yarn retails for $16 per cake. Each cake contains 150 yards (135 meters) of yarn and weighs in at 680 grams (24 ounces).
The recommended needles and hooks for this yarn are US 11 (8.00 mm) knitting needles or US L-11 (8.00 mm) crochet hooks or larger. I used a much larger hook, a US Q (17.00 mm), and feel like it was just about perfect, if not a hair too small.
One fun thing about this yarn is that each cake comes with a tag and a sticker. My children loved the stickers and I think the tags add a bit of polish to finished projects.
Pros
T-Shirt Yarn is strong, springy, and uniform in color and width (1.5″). It is soft enough to work with all day.
This yarn works up quickly and could easily be used for finger knitting or crafts.
Since it is made of 100% cotton, it is also suitable for vegans!
Cons
Each cake has a single knot, which is disclosed on the website. This is the joining area for the two strips used to create the cake. While It was not noticeable on my project, it may be a concern for other crafters.
Colorways come and go. Be sure to purchase enough for your project!
Overall
This is an excellent yarn for home décor and works up beautifully. I think it is versatile and a value at its price point.
