At Yarn's Length

The World’s Largest McDonald’s

I am always looking for unique meal and entertainment opportunities when we travel, which is why my husband was shocked when I suggested we have lunch at McDonald’s. He didn’t realize that Orlando is home to several stores in the restaurant chain, including the world’s largest McDonald’s!

The World’s Largest McDonald’s Restaurant

It wasn’t just about the size, though. What drew me in was the promise of my very own McPizza!

I couldn’t wrap my head around fast food pizza that would be worth the rave reviews I’d read. Luckily we were planning a trip to Orlando when I stumbled upon this gem. I looked it up and discovered that it is only minutes from Universal Orlando.

Though it was built in 1976, the world’s largest McDonald’s looks brand new thanks to a 2015 renovation.

The building itself is massive, though its footprint is comparable to a standard McDonald’s restaurant. It’s larger vertically! It’s also much classier than most of the McDonald’s restaurants where I’m from. The tile received an upgrade and the decor included warmer, natural tones and some aquatic life.

The Menu

We visited during peak lunch hours, so it was very crowded. Still, we were able to quickly find a touchscreen kiosk and begin our order. We were so excited about the menu options, including the pizza and pasta.

Both of the unique menu offerings can easily be made vegetarian. I appreciated this as the parent of a veggie. It’s often tricky to find food she can eat and typical McDonald’s fare is lacking in that department.

If you’re a pasta lover, there are four options to try with five different sauces.

There’s even more opportunity to customize pizza since there are dozens of toppings! They even included some vegetables and meats not typically offered at McDonald’s on any other menu items.

Additional meats and cheeses increase the price, but you can go all out on a veggie for the same base cost.

After we placed our order, we grabbed drinks and our table marker and headed upstairs. The table marker had an RFID chip (or something like that) so that they could easily locate us when the food was ready.

The Entertainment

We sent the kids to the Playplace, a massive climbing structure that stretches in height over 22 feet! We peeked in the arcade, which is home to over 100 games, but the crowds kept us from spending too much time or money in there.

The Food

The food came out in batches. The traditional McDonald’s fare is the fastest. One of our daughters ordered a cheeseburger (the same one she gets at home), so she received her food first.

Next, the pasta arrived. It was served with a little piece of crusty bread. My son loved it!

Since the pizzas are custom-made and fired in an oven with limited space, they can take a bit longer. They came out last.

They were worth the wait! Comparable to any other fast pizza (think Blaze or Mod Pizza), these had the crispy crusts and dusty char that you only get from oven-firing.

There’s also a dedicated counter just for sweets at this McDonald’s!

Yes, we ordered dessert!

Even though we’ll never run through all of the things to do in Orlando, we’ll still stop back at this McDonald’s. It’s a delicious, budget-friendly vacation meal and the novelty of trying a new McDonald’s menu makes it that much better!
