About Traveling Vine Stitch
Yes, it’s another vine! Traveling Vine Stitch is a winding stitch that adds allover texture and a touch of breathability to fabrics. This stitch is lovely on knitted garments, but I’m enjoying it on this blanket.
I used 191 yards (172 meters) of yarn to complete this panel.
This pattern was adapted from 50 Fabulous Knit Stitches by Rita Weiss.
Abbreviations
BO – bind off
CO – cast on
k – knit
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together; single right-leaning decrease
p – purl
p2tog – purl 2 together; single decrease
SKP – slip 1 knitwise, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch; single left-leaning decrease
st(s) – stitch(es)
tbl – through back loop
yo – yarn over
Notes
Odd rows of this pattern increase the stitch count by 8 per row (1 per repeat). To help you stay on track, these are included in the stitch count at the end of each row (even though the stitch count returns to 66 on the following row when the yarn overs are worked).
The wrong side of this pattern includes repeats of 7 purled stitches and then 2 stitches purled together or purled together through the back loops. Be mindful of whether or not you are working a p2tog or p2tog tbl to ensure you are getting the correct slant on these stitches!
I found it very easy to get lost in this stitch. Consider using highlighter tape to keep track of your progress on the printed instructions.

For General Use
I added 1 row to this pattern so that we could use it in the Winter Stitch Sampler Knit Along. If you wish to use this stitch pattern in a different project, use the instructions below, which have not been modified.
This stitch is worked in multiples of 8 + 2 stitches across 12 rows and the pattern begins on the right side. Each odd row adds stitches (1 per repeat) and each even row brings the stitch count back to the original number.
Row 1 – K1, *yo, k1 tbl, yo, SKP, k5; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 2 – K1, *p4, p2tog tbl, p3; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 3 – K1, *yo, k1 tbl, yo, k2, SKP, k3; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 4 – K1, *p2, p2tog tbl, p5; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 5 – K1, *k1 tbl, yo, k4, SKP, k1, yo; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 6 – K1, *p1, p2tog tbl, p6; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 7 – K1, *k5, k2tog, yo, k1 tbl, yo; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 8 – K1, *p3, p2tog, p4; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 9 – K1, *k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k1 tbl, yo; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 10 – K1, *p5, p2tog, p2; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 11 – K1, *yo, k1, k2tog, k4, yo, k1 tbl; rep from * to last st, k1

Week 4 Winter KAL which I purchased for free through Ravelry. The newsletter or e-mail did not include the “Youtube” connection within one of the pics to the “Traveling Vine Stitch”. It has a pic of …”Traveling”; …closeup…and pic of wrongside.
Thanks for checking into this. Having fun with this sampler but my progress is slower than the programs weekly presentations.

I am late to the game, but I’m having a hard time with this! I’m ending row 2 with 66 stitches (8 stitch repeats), as called for.
But the pattern on row 3 needs 9st per repeat? am I doing something wrong? any advice helps! š

Row 3 ā K1, *yo, k1 tbl, yo, k2, SKP, k3; rep from * to last st, k1 [74 sts]
This row requires 8 sts per repeat.
yo – no st needed
k1 tbl – 1
yo – no st needed
k2 – 2
SKP – 2
k3 – 3
Iām thinking you may be working the SKP as a SK2P and thinking you need an extra stitch there. Let me know!
Daria
*facepalm*
Yup… I was doing exactly that.
I’ve got another project on needles that calls for the sk2p, as did some other sampler squares… so I just saw it wrong… lol!
Thank you so much!
Holly
You’re welcome! I have done this exact thing before š
