Untangled Purls [Local Yarn Shop]

The time I spent at Untangled Purls in Fredericksburg, Virginia was the bright spot in a gloomy, wet day!

Untangled Purls

Untangled Purls is located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The shop is just a few minutes off of I-95, so it’s a great pit stop for your next east coast road trip.

The shop is brightly lit with clean lines. This really made the colors of the yarn pop!

The staff was attentive, friendly, and helpful. This is the kind of shop you’d love to hang out in, stitching away the afternoon with other knitters and crocheters.

Typically that sort of communal stitch area is the first thing you’d see when you enter the shop, but it has been rearranged to better suit customers’ needs. (I anticipate it will return to the original setup once COVID-19 concerns have dissipated.)

I was surprised to find a high-end acrylic yarn, too! Untangled Purls carries a huge assortment — that’s 100 colors — of Hayfield Bonus DK acrylic yarn. For a local yarn shop, these are very budget-friendly at $4.95 per 100g skein. They’re also very soft!

I also inquired about knitting and crochet classes, which are still being held via Zoom. While COVID-19 has caused a lot of negative upheaval, being able to participate in classes from shops around the country from home has been a silver lining.

I purchased a new set of needles (Knitters Pride) and a skein of gold carry-along thread by Ella Rae called Sequinicity. It’s the perfect complement to the yarn I’m using in a blanket.

Rowan at Finnegan’s Run

While checking out, I learned that Untangled Purls recently opened a sister shop!

As the demand for Rowan yarns increased, Untangled Purls considered an expansion, but ultimately decided a dedicated shopfront was a better solution. Rowan at Finnegan’s Run is now open in the same shopping center, just a few storefronts down from Untangled Purls.

Rowan at Finnegan’s Run is an all-Rowan yarn shop!
