About Vine Stripe Stitch
Vine Stripe Stitch is a pattern of stitches shaped like vines and leaves, winding down a background of garter stitch. It looks a bit like it is a cabled stitch. (Don’t worry — it isn’t!)
The longer the repeat, the more beautiful this stitch is. It’s a good fit for scarves, blankets, or down the sleeve of a sweater!
I used 172 yards (157 meters) of yarn to complete this panel.
This stitch pattern was adapted from A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker.

How many stitches should I end up with after working each row? I am having extra stitches at the end of the patterned rows. I am not ending with 66 stitches on every row.

Hi Sara —
You should have 66 stitches after each row.
Row 2 has 2 increases in the repeat (both yo) and two decreases (one ssk and one k2tog), so there is no change in stitch count.
For Row 4, same.
For Row 6, two increases (both yo) and one double decrease (slip, k2tog, psso). No change in count.
For Rows 8 and 10, the 2 yo are also balanced by the k2tog and ssk.
For Row 12, the k3tog is a double decrease that neutralizes the 2 yo.
What row are you on?
