We Finally Tried Crumbl Cookies!
During our spring adventure through the southeast, one shop kept popping up when I looked for specialty restaurants: Crumbl Cookies. With a name like that, we had to give it a shot, right?
We passed Crumbl Cookie shops in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida… somehow the timing never quite lined up and we missed eating at all of them! Imagine my delight when I saw that a Crumbl Cookies would be opening up in Northern Virginia, just half an hour from where we live.
Ordering Crumbl Cookies
The Crumbl Cookie shop we visited was small with a modern, clean storefront. There’s not much room up front, but customers still have enough space to order at one of two electronic kiosks or at a register with an employee. Plexiglass lines the mixing and baking areas, all of which are visible from the front of the shop. You can watch them making the cookies right there!
Crumbl Cookies serves cookies that are huge. They are larger than my palm, about 4 1/2″ around and about 6 ounces each.
Ordering our cookies at the kiosk was simple. I was able to choose a 6-pack, select the cookies I wanted (one of each flavor), and pay for the order in about 30 seconds. The cost was $19.95 before tax.
Cookie Flavors
Crumbl Cookies has two fixed standards (chocolate chip and classic sugar) and rotates a menu of four other cookies. Flavors of the week are announced each Sunday. We tried them all!
Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie
Served Warm
This cookie was a refreshing take on the classic chocolate chip cookie we all know and love. These cookies incorporate large milk chocolate chips, about the size of a nickel, with a familiar base.
It’s not so familiar that it’s overdone, though. This dough has a lighter flavor than most chocolate chip cookies, which pairs well with milk chocolate over semisweet. It doesn’t taste as caramelized and my initial thought was that it used less brown sugar or lighter brown sugar. Delicious!
Classic Sugar Cookie
Served chilled
This classic sugar cookie is topped with a pink swirl of almond frosting.
I absolutely adore almond extract. I even add a tiny drop to my crispy rice cereal treats. This frosting packs a punch of almond flavoring! The cookie itself is also good. It’s not overly sweet, but it’s definitely crumbly, especially if you let it warm to room temperature. Make sure you have a drink nearby!
Pumpkin Cake Cookie
Served warm
This cookie is really a cookie-shaped piece of cake. Springy, light, and well spiced, this cake cookie is topped with a generous amount of cream cheese frosting and a touch of mini chocolate chips. These chips don’t add much in the way of flavor, but they do round out the cookie overall by adding some texture.
The Pumpkin Cake Cookie was my favorite of all the cookies we tried at Crumbl Cookies. I continually had to remind myself to stop eating it and save room for the others! This is the cookie I’d select for myself if I returned this week.
Funfetti Cookie
Served warm
Using the familiar flavor of Funfetti cake mix and rainbow sprinkles, the Funfetti Cookie is absolute fun! It was the first to catch my daughter’s eye.
This was the least sweet cookie of all and didn’t have bells and whistles. Still, the flavor was uncomplicated and the cookie itself was quite pretty.
Aggie Blue Mint Cookie
Served chilled
Honestly, I had to look this one up. I had no idea what Aggie Blue Mint was! It’s actually a nod to a Utah State-themed ice cream of the same name and was a delight to eat.
This rich cookie tastes like cookies and cream, but has larger chunks of cookies inside. A subtly minty swirl of cookie bits frosting lightens the richness of the cookie and fooled me into thinking I could eat more than I could. This amazing cookie is perfect for a fan of cookies and cream ice cream (or, my personal favorite, Cookie Monster ice cream).
Double Fudge Brownie Cookie
Served warm
Another hybrid, the Double Fudge Brownie Cookie, was almost too rich to handle. This warm chocolate cookie was served with chunks of brownie and drizzled with chocolate ganache. The combination of these textures into a gooey brownie bite is like eating warm brownies fresh from the oven.
This one requires a strong cup of coffee or milk!
The Verdict
So which cookie was the best? Here are my favorites, in order:
6. Funfetti Cookie
5. Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie
4. Classic Sugar Cookie
3. Double Fudge Brownie Cookie
2. Aggie Blue Mint Cookie
1. Carrot Cake Cookie
I feel a tad bit bad choosing a top cookie that’s practically a cake, but it really was the tastiest! Besides, there isn’t a cookie on this list that I would turn down!
