One of the first things we passed was the Spring House. It was interesting, but it’s not the reason we visited…

We followed the blue blazes to stay on the Bluebell Trail.

It’s called the Bluebell Trail because it leads hikers through thousands of bluebell blooms!

We didn’t even have to walk a tenth of a mile before we saw its famed bluebells! After that, they were everywhere! We followed the length of the Bluebell Trail. It was a flat, easy hike through the forest. It was just over one mile long.

We visited in mid-April because we knew that spring is when extensive seas of Virginia bluebells blanket this forest.

Without question, the best time to visit is in the spring! It’s the only time you can see these special spring blooms.

The bluebells were so vibrant that they almost seemed to glow!

Just when we thought we had seen them all, we rounded a corner and there were more bluebells!

These bluebells covered the entire flood plain along Cedar Run.

Some parts were especially muddy as we’d had lots of recent rain.

Dress for floodplains — I recommend boots — and be sure to wear bug spray!

Walk with us through part of the trail to see the bluebells for yourself. Be sure to listen for the birds, too!
