Last Friday was Local Yarn Store Day! When it comes to local shops and buying knitting supplies, I’m quite the joiner. I rushed down to Yarn Cloud, the closest LYS. It is nestled in the riverside community of Occoquan in Prince William County, Virginia. Chock full of local shops and eateries, Occoquan has something for everyone!

The Shop: Yarn Cloud

The shop may be small, but it is mighty! Look at all this yarn!

You’ll find a variety of notions. The yarn offerings include high-end fibers like cashmere, yarn from local artisans, and LYS staples. There’s even a clearance corner!

I purchased two sets of ChiaoGoo needles, both at 15% off due to the Local Yarn Store celebration! Woohoo!

The Great Yarn Giveaway

Yarn Cloud is responsible for several charity programs and is currently building up to The Great Yarn Giveaway, to be held on I Love Yarn Day. (Held the second Saturday of the month, this year I Love Yarn Day falls on October 10th.)

After collecting yarns, needles, and notions de-stashed by the local knitting community, the shop gives it back to the community in October.

Visit the shop with your donation of a hat for the homeless and you can select from the bins of de-stashed materials!

Materials not selected during this program are also donated back to the community, including senior centers and elementary schools.
