Knitting Addiction [Local Yarn Shop]

We just spent a wonderful week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina! December is in the middle of the off-season and it was a bit chilly, but even more limiting than the temperature was the sun, which disappeared by 5:00PM daily. We had to find something to do till bedtime!

We spent a good portion of our time exploring local shops and restaurants. When I saw a sign on a roadside strip that said YARN, I knew I was in the right place!

Knitting Addiction

For over 15 years, Knitting Addiction has served the Outer Banks in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

Owner Jeanne is a former classroom teacher and Carolina is the shop pup. Carolina is a little timid, though our crew of little people may have been a bit intimidating!

My familiarity with Knitting Addiction comes from their yarn truck, lovingly named Geraldine, which I first saw at a fiber festival in southeastern Virginia (back in the days when we could still have fiber festivals).

The shop itself is lovely. There’s plenty of cozy seating on plush couches up front and the promise of more upstairs.

Yes, that’s one of my littles attempting to explore the upstairs area.

We redirected him to the children’s space under the stairs. This gave me a good amount of time to explore!

As you might expect, this coastal yarn shop carries a good amount of cotton yarn.

I think just about every single yarn had a handknit sample to match! This was very helpful when selecting between a couple novelty yarns. (You can never really tell how some of those will work up!)

I was also excited to see that the shop carried Sea Star Handpaints, yarn by an Outer Banks native. (We’ll consider that pseudo-local even though she has relocated to Texas!)

I scooped up a couple skeins of Beach Pebbles by Plymouth Yarns and one skein of Bamboo Bloom Handpaints by Universal Yarn.

I can’t resist a good soap or a local purchase, so I also purchased some soaps from a local artisan.
