The Sanguine Hat is a simple knitting project that yields a beautiful result. The stretchy yarn and simple stitch pattern provide allover texture and interest.
This knitting pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner. It is worked in the round with knits, purls, and decreases (k2tog and p2tog). The allover stitch pattern is simple easy to commit to memory.

23″ circumference
8.5″ height
Materials
Yarn:
2 skeins of Adriafil Stellato in 52 Ruby
or
165 yards of aran weight yarn of your choice
Needles:
US #6/4.00mm (circular or DPN)
US #8/5.00mm (circular or DPN)
Notions:
finishing needle
pompom (optional)
stitch markers
Notes
Gauge:
16 sts x 20 rounds = 4″ x 4″
in Stockinette Stitch
Abbreviations
BO – bind off
CO – cast on
k – knit
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together; single right-leaning decrease
p – purl
pm – place marker
p2tog – purl 2 stitches together; single decrease
st(s) – stitch(es)
Setup
With US #6 needles, CO 96 sts, pm, and join in the round, taking care not to twist.
Work in k1, p1 rib until work measures 3″.
Body
Change to US #8 needles and work the following rounds:
Round 1 – k all
Round 2 – *k1, p1*
Round 3 – k all
Round 4 – *p1, k1*
Repeat these four rounds until your work measures 7″ from the cast-on edge.
Crown Shaping
Round 1 – *k24, pm*
Round 2 – *p2tog, (k1, p1) until 2 sts before m, k2tog, slip m*
Round 3 – k all
Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 until 12 stitches remain (2 sts per section).
Finishing
Snip yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw through remaining stitches, pull tight, and secure.
Weave in ends. Block if desired.
